Art Deco Collection #3
Jakob Bengel, Bauhaus and Galalith
Why Jewellery? Well... Jakob Bengel, (a locksmith at the time), founded his company in 1873 in Idar-Oberstein and originally manufactured pocket watch chains. Bengel was very much inspired by Bauhaus, the very famous school of design in Germany. Materials were sought for new designs and Galalith (a milk-based product also known as 'Milk Stone') was born and started to become very popular in the 1930's. The jewellery was very much supported and adorned by the French Avant-Garde and other fashion trend-setters such as Coco Chanel. Bengel produced costume jewellery for the rich and famous and his designs suddenly became world famous.
The factory was a time capsule, which closed down in the late 1930s as if they had all gone to lunch due to WWII control that meant that Jakob Bengel’s signature jewellery production thus came to an end. Jakob Bengel created many designs for the Jazz Age party goers very much influenced by Parisian taste and his Jewellery is extremely sought after for evening wear, by party lovers and the lady who just wants to look beautiful and individual. We now have the opportunity to offer some stunning and very individual Bengel Jewellery pieces (recovered from the factory when it was rediscovered) that differ in their style by offering Brass, Chrome, Galalith in different colours, and geometric lines that will stand out in any social gathering. This Jewellery expressed the glamour of the New Woman of the 30's and it still remains able to do so in the 21st Century with so much style, beauty and elegance. This is just a sample of what we have rescued so please ask for your preference of style. This Jewellery is selling fast amongst London’s fashion trade!
